My name is Barry and I recently retired and moved to North Carolina from New Jersey at the end of 2007 after approximately 20 years in the postal service. After a health scare that kept me home on medical leave for almost a year in 2005, my wife and I decided to retire. To occupy my time in between working on our new home I decided to return to a hobby I left when work and family took priority. I completed building my first loft and christened it "Willow Loft".

My program is small, with pigeons my wife and I have carefully selected specifically for health and quality. I built the loft using siding that matches our new home. The size of the first loft is 20 feet long by 6 feet wide and is divided into a section for the flyers and a section for the breeders with a 4 foot walkway in between. I used Plexiglas to allow for sufficient light and screened in aviaries in the front to allow for ample air and freedom for the birds. I used latticework for the doorways into each section and also to complete the nest fronts as well as the inside ceiling. It has a slatted floor with trays underneath to keep cleaning simple. Our home and the loft is situated on the side of a mountain and has fantastic views of the South Mountain State Park.

Click here for photos, which shows the building process as well as the finished project. The process took approximately 2 months and is continuously being improved.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!
